Dredging restarted at Hayle Harbour
Dredging of the estuary re-commenced in April with a new contractor, Padstow Sea Sand Limited. Regular dredging is needed, around two to four times per month to provide a safe channel for fishing and sailing boats to navigate. Dredging also maximises the flow of the tide to naturally flush the channel.
Hayle Harbour Authority is responsible for dredging and uses machinery to clear sand that is then taken to the sand yard at North Quay to be cleaned and left to dry. Once it is dry it is then sold to local businesses.
Dredging only takes place in four zones on the map below – sand is not removed from sand dunes and the amount of sand taken is monitored.
